Super Foods: Spinach

Ugly Truth: Strawberry Jam

Strawberry Jam. Something that most love and and most feed to their children. When making your child a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, what do you put on that sandwich? Jam! This doesn't just apply to Strawberry Jam, jam in general is guilty of these astounding facts unfortunately.



Today I am picking on Smuckers jam, but no jam is innocent when it comes to this. 
Notice in the ingredients the first ingredient is strawberry juice(sugar), high fructose corn syrup(sugar), and finally corn syrup(sugar). All refined. All terrible. Notice that nowhere does it contain just simply strawberries. 

However, if made homemade you only use strawberries, sugar(organic or organic palm), and pectin or chia seeds. 
This can also be purchased Naturally from most retailers or even organic from a whole foods store. 

Now... why is sugar so bad? 

Here you go... the Ugly truth about this sweet little substance.

Those sneaky additives... Part 1

You're going to the store to buy shredded cheese, right? WRONG! What you're actually buying is a cheese like product. Even if what you're actually purchasing is cheese, it's more than likely coated in an anti-caking agent. Known commonly as 'cellulose microcrystalline and powdered'. This seemingly harmless product is also not so commonly known as wood pulp. It has been banned in baby food in the UK and is known for causing serious intestinal issues.
Instead of buying cheese pre-shredded, purchase it in a block. Shred it yourself at home, which takes little to no time and save your family from those sneaky additives.


Peanut Butter



Did you know all peanut butter contains hydrogenated vegetable oils and refined sugar?! Which takes away all of those awesome health benefits that everyone raves about... and in fact, nearly makes it bad for you?!

AND most reputable stores carry their own brand name making the natural option the same exact price as regular peanut butter. Often times, you can actually find it for less!

Choose completely natural or organic instead!

FAT FREE is not TROUBLE FREE

Americans, including myself are guilty of falling into the misleading advertisements of FAT FREE. It's healthy... they say. There's no fat in it... they say. Eat this and be skinny... they say. FALSE! The added sugar they use defeats the entire purpose of Fat Free. Not to mention the chemicals, preservatives... Need I go on?

It's no coincidence that cancer is so prevalent, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, etc...


GMO's, preservatives, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, artificial coloring, and many more are all worthy of watching for when buying food for your family.
